TW: Concept Development - Plot Synopsis - potential idea

Greenhouse idea:

  • Man in a surgeon uniform (which immediately implies authority)
  • Pictured engaging in actions associated with mental illnesses - such as OCD
  • These actions may include -
  • -him getting dressed into his uniform (including gloves, and pulling the gloves so securely they snap onto his wrist.)
  • - pruning plants emphatically in the greenhouse, and then taking notes on the plants - for example - pH levels. This reveals the systematic nature of the antagonist
  • - a fly going past his eyeline (perhaps utilising the POV shot), and the antagonist destroying the fly in a vicious manner before cutting it open with a sharp, small blade. This is inspired by Breaking Bad episode - 'The Fly', which was critically acclaimed for revealing the momentus character development 'Walter White' had undergone, and his perfectionist and OCD nature. This sequence would also reveal the psychotic and unforgiving nature of the antagonist.
  • - cutting himself on a tool, and blood slowly dripping from his finger while he watches. Jump cuts could be used between each drop of blood. The antagonist then uses a series of wipes, cream etc to clean his slight wound up. This reveals the meticulous nature of the antagonist.
  • More actions than this can be included before the antagonist removes his gloves, sits down, and bites his fingernails. This reveals the habitual nature of the antagonist. Moreover - the fingernail could be coated in blood, which could be highlighted by an extreme close up. This is an example of a pro-filmic effect.
  • An idea which we are currently debating is to end the scene on a pan - which reveals the magnitude and frequency of the murders. This could be a series of things which is revealed - for example: 1) A wheelbarrow full of bodies covered by a cloth, which is effective as it still deprives the viewer of violence, but implies it, and therefore results in audience engagement. 2) A 'moodboard' of his victims, which is an example of horror iconography.
  • Alternatively - our final sequence is shot in a different location. The antagonist character fills the whole frame, walks forward and hereby reveals a person covered in bloody cloth surrounded by ghastly horrors, like knives strewn on the floor.
  • Notes on title sequence: after every action the antagonist completes - a limb crosses the camera (eg - his arm), and the next necessary title 'fades in' and then 'fades out'. Taking inspiration from Dexter - the title could be in a washed blood colour.

  1. Excellent research - the idea of using OCD tendencies to connote 'atypical' and therefore 'suspect' behaviour would be an interesting idea.
